What is a unisex bike?

On the one hand there are bikes built exclusively for men, known as men’s bikes, and on the other hand there are bikes made solely for women, known as women’s bikes. Whether a bike is designed for men or women can often be recognised quite easily by looking at the size or height of the bike. Normally, you would expect a women’s bike to be smaller in size and have smaller wheels than a men’s. Along with this, the bike’s frame is also a good indicator; men’s bikes usually have a horizontal crossbar between the saddle and the handlebars, whereas on a woman’s bike this would curve downwards in order to make it easier to get on and off the bike whilst wearing a long skirt for example.

The term ‘unisex’ is used to describe anything that can be used by both men and women. In the world of cycling and of course, DealMyWheel it is used to describe bikes which have been built with both sexes in mind. The product range for unisex bikes is enormous and extends to almost all types of bicycle, for example mountain bikes, cruisers, European city bikes, roadsters and BMXs. In other words, it is not easy to categorise any specific bike as unisex because they can be just as easily ridden by women as men. Above all it is difficult since many of these particular bikes have not been created specifically for any one gender. In the unisex bikes area you will therefore find a large selection of new and old bikes which can be used by both men and women.
